5th Ironman Title for Odia Ironman, Sidharth Routray. A family travel to eastern Canada coupled with a Ironman Race at the end, at the beautiful town of Mont-Trembland.
A well balanced race between family time and adventure. Took the family to the beautiful Niagara Falls, Toronto and Montreal. It was amazing time spend at these beautiful Canadian Cities. The Niagara Falls were breathtaking and fun. I did a open water 5K swim with a local club, that was one of the best open water training center I have ever seen at Welland International Flatwater Centre: https://www.wifc.ca/.
The running trails in Toronto were the best I have seen in any city for running practice. Miles of green covered trails in the center of the city. Enjoyed the runs and the food and the downtown, and the hippie markets.
Montreal old town and downtown with all its historical buildings were a beautiful and friendly. A run at the Royal Hills and the food sitting on the streets was delicious.
The race was tougher than expected. I have to admit my 8 weeks training was not enough. At the same time I am very happy to finish it with comfort. The swim was excellent, as I did an effortless run, with little energy spent. Lake Tremblant is the best swimming course I have ever see. Nice clean, clear, not much wind, sweet water to relax and swim in.
The cycling was tough with 6000 feet of elevation. The hills towards the end of the race were killer. Around 150 km,lost the steam and legs started to tighten-up, slowed down for next 30 km. But finished with no cramps and no issues.
Run was tough too, I was tired, and there were many hills. 1500 feet of elevation on run, made it tougher, and I walked all up-hills. I filled ice into my running pants pockets, that helped avoid any cramps. I did not stress myself, finished the run with a stead pace. Was very happy that my wife and kids were there to cheer me during the run, that really helped.
Happy to finish the race, and still be able to walk to our ARBNB 3 km away, with no cramps and limping. A happy and comfortable race!
